The History of Ice Hockey

It is generally agreed that ice hockey is an exciting game that takes as much stamina, agility, skill and speed as any sport when it is said about the competitive level. My friend Zinger told many interesting stories about The Stanley Cup, the trophy of professional hockey today, was first presented to the team that won the championship of Canada in 1893. In 1900 this trophy became the emblem for the best professional hockey team in the whole world. Fans of ice hockey usually follow their favorite team during the contests. Ice hockey is a team sport played on ice – each team has six players. Each team consists of a goalkeeper, a right defense, a left defense, center, right wing, and left wing. A rectangular field of ice is called a rink. Two blue lines drawn across the rink divide it into three equal parts and there is also a red center line. The skaters use their sticks to hit a puck into opponents’ net. Of course, all players have sticks, but goalkeepers’ sticks are heavier and wider. Padding for hips, knees, elbows, and shoulders are worn by the skaters. Each of them puts on a chest guard and wears a protective helmet in any case. Ice hockey is one of the most popular sports in the countries with cold winters, such as Canada, Russia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the northern part of the United States. Fans of ice hockey usually bring slogans, signs, and strong words along with them.
